Handle should be hand washed and dried and oiled from time to time with food grade butcher block oil or camellia oil to maintain a good sheen and better block against water uptake. Acids from hands and salt water strip the surface from its sheen and water resistant properties, so, it's a good practice and will maintain the knife for decades to come.
