The Pontarlier glass is without a doubt the most popular type of absinthe glass.
Pontarlier is a French city close to the Swiss border, which used to be home to the largest absinthe distillery at the time, Pernod Fils.
The name of the glass seems to come from a painted ad paid by Pernod Fils and created by Charles Maire, a local artist. The colourful picture could be found in many cafes during the Belle Epoque.
The Pontarlier Étoile (French for « star ») has a beveled finish, which gives this old classic an elegant twist.
Please note that because it is hand made in a traditional manner, some bubbles and differences from one glass to another may occur. If you'd rather have perfectly similar glasses, the Bistro version might be better choice for you.
