Product Description

Perhaps the most popular antique absinthe glass today is the legendary Pontarlier glass. Although there are slight variations of this glass, this style is considered to be the quintessence of the traditional Pontarlier absinthe glass. The glass was first named after the name it gave in an advertisement for the first absinthe producer of the time, Pernod Fils. The newspaper of the brand's hometown, Pontarlier, France, was published in this advertisement (see photo below). Due to the popularity of the company, the newspaper was sent all over France, which only increased the notoriety of Pernod Fils and Pontarlier glass. This glass is made in the same proportions as the original Pontarlier glass, including its reservoir. The reservoir is the area used to measure the quantity of absinthe to be used in a glass. This measurement was intended to help the bartender in a bar, by allowing him to know the exact amount of absinthe to be poured, and it allowed the customer to know that it was an honest absinthe. The size of the reservoir generally correlated with the size of the glass used. The reservoir measures 25 ml, which is the standard for a glass of absinthe of this size. It is a machine-molded glass, therefore thick and strong - ideal for intensive use in a bar or restaurant.
